Limestone Books

Grote Gracht 63 Maastricht
The Netherlands

Limestone Books is an art/design bookshop and publishing platform. We focus on non-western perspectives and underrepresented voices. Founded by a curatorial collective Jhen Chen, Liang-Kai Yu, Emily Shin-Jie Lee, HSIEH I Hsuan, and Chang YuHsin in Maastricht.
We envision ourselves as a bookshop, but not in the traditional profit-driven sense. Instead, we view the economic perspective as a focal point where we can foster radical experimentation within the art publishing sphere. This is particularly pertinent in the contemporary context dominated by digital content.
Rather than seeing publishing as producing books, we strive to harness PUBLISHING as an active force—a means of disseminating information, a strategy for decolonizing the global capitalist model of knowledge production, and a pathway for learning from diverse cultures. While we are selling books, our approach to book selection will be entirely different from that of a commercial bookshop. This is because we perceive the act of designing—publishing—distributing books as integral aspects of our artistic practice.

Artists and organizations we worked with:
Chang Chih-Chung, Non Native Native, Lin Bai-Xue, fugitive radio, Rose Nordin, Maud van den Beuken, Kim David Bots, Riar Rizald, Feminist of Maastricht, Free Palestine Maastricht, the Female Empowerment Maastricht University team and the Diversity & Inclusivity Office of Maastricht University, Rose Nordin, Marjolein van der Loo Annie Jael Kwan, Joanna Wolfarth, Qila Gill, Pathompon Mont Tesprateep, Russell Morton, Ridhwan Saidi, Hsiang-Yun Huang, Alan Smart, Iris de Leeuw, Anne Büscher, Wanci Jiang, Milena Dahl, Design Academy Eindhoven, Bryony Dunne, Ducttape Collective, Jody Aikman, Malu Ebenau, Jean-Shelia, Maria Voth Velasco, Ids Kusters, Britt van Baaren, Lars den Hertog, Seulbin Roh, the Jan van Eyck Academie, Pride Maastricht, Sunflower Soup, Print Room, Non-Native Native Fair, Kuan-Tine Chen, Kasper Quaink, Yen-Ting Kuan, Pei-Ying Lin, Walking Grass Agriculture, Jonas Palekas, Pei-Ying Lin, Eben Kirksey, Tzu-Tung Lee, Addoley Dzegede, Karoline Świeżyński, Derica Shields, G, Video Power, Framer Framed, Yornel Martínez Elías, Sooji Lee, Jhen Chen, Marjolein van der Loo, Nanne Timmer, Carlos A.
